Pomaika'i Elementary School, Maui, Hawaii
At this arts integrated elementary school I collaborate with each grade level to create lessons and projects that connect back to content area stimulate place-based learning. When Covid 19 closed our schools, I transitioned to online learning. Besides live draw-alongs during students' online class meetings, I also created YouTube art lessons to continue their creative exploration. This continues in the 2020-2021 school year with weekly videos being posted for K-1 2-3rd, and 4-5th grades each Wednesday. Visit artsutrov.weebly.com to join in and learn from these videos!
Also, kidscreate808.com is collecting video lessons from arts educators throughout Hawaii.

Pride Prep, Spokane, WA
As the arts are a tool for creating meaning, they are powerful when used in education. As well as integrating the arts, my projects often also weave in social justice causes. In 2015 I helped found Pride Prep, a project based learning charter school in Spokane, Washington, where we put on Exhibitions of student work several times a year. Below are some of the creations.

Kula Elementary, Maui
During 2014-2015 I worked at Kula Elementary School as their K-5th teaching artist. The year culminated with an art show featuring the entire school. This was especially meaningful to me since I myself was a Kula Elementary student, and the exhibition was at the local community center which displays a painting I created in my teens of the neighboring farms. Check out the video below and photos of the Kula School Art Night in 2015.
